Heat Pump Hot Water

Replace your electric or gas storage tank with an iStore or Panasonic CO₂ heat pump and cut hot water running costs by up to 70%.

A heat pump hot water system works like an air conditioner in reverse, pulling heat from the outside air to heat the tank, which is why it uses a fraction of the electricity of an element. We supply and install iStore heat pumps and Panasonic's new Australian CO₂ range, both designed for local conditions, and we handle the government incentives for you.

Questions we get asked

How much can I save with a heat pump hot water system?
Panasonic quotes up to 70% lower running costs than a conventional electric storage tank. Real savings depend on how much hot water you use and whether you have solar, but a family of four on an old electric tank typically saves several hundred dollars a year.
Are there government rebates for heat pump hot water?
Yes. Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts apply to approved heat pump systems replacing electric or gas tanks, and Solar Victoria offers a hot water rebate for eligible households. We check what you qualify for and lodge the paperwork.
Does it work on cold mornings?
The Panasonic CO₂ range is rated to operate down to about −10 °C, well below anything Melbourne sees. CO₂ refrigerant is particularly good at high water temperatures in cold air.
Which tank size do I need?
As a guide, 250 L suits one to three people, 315 L three to four, and 400 L larger households or homes with spa baths. We confirm on quote.
How much does a heat pump hot water system cost?
It depends on the brand, the tank size and how much plumbing and electrical work the site needs. An all-in-one iStore is the lower-cost option. A Panasonic CO₂ split system with a 315 L or 400 L tank costs more up front but is quieter, recovers faster and carries a 10-year warranty. Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts come straight off the invoice, and eligible households can add the $1,000 Solar Victoria hot water rebate, which is why many changeovers end up costing little more than a like-for-like electric tank. Send us a photo of your current tank and we will give you a firm price.
iStore or Panasonic: which heat pump should I choose?
iStore is an all-in-one unit with the heat pump on top of the tank, in 180 L and 270 L sizes. It is compact, VEU-approved and the value pick for small to medium households, especially with solar. Panasonic's CO₂ range is a split system with a separate outdoor heat pump and a 250 L, 315 L or 400 L tank. It runs at around 37 dB, keeps working to about −10 °C and comes with a 10-year parts and labour warranty, so it suits larger families, exposed sites and anyone who wants the quietest option. We recommend on site based on space, noise and household size.
Does the rebate cover installation?
Yes. The Victorian Energy Upgrades discount is worked out from the system you are replacing and the one going in, and we apply it to the total invoice, so it reduces the installed price rather than just the hardware. The $1,000 Solar Victoria hot water rebate is also taken off the full installed cost for eligible owner-occupiers. Neither is a cash payment to you: the discount appears on our quote and invoice, and we check eligibility and lodge the paperwork before the job.
